We like books that are fun, books that teach us about ourselves, and books that helpo us figure out the world around us.  We like books about kids like ourselves, and we like books that show us different kinds of children.

Some of our favorites:

We all love Winnie-the-Pooh and friends

Some prefer the original A.A. Milne version-Some prefer the Disney version.  We like Pooh in any shape or form!

Robert Munsch has written a number of books, great for children in the 4-10 year old range. Many of his books feature stong willed young girls. Our favorites include"Love You Forever",  Murmel, Murmel", "Purple, Green, and Yellow", and  "Angela's Airplane".

"Stop That Pickle", by Peter Armour, is a delightful story of a pickle who escapes from the deli, with various food groups in pursuit.  When the pickle runs into the boy, it seems like it is all over.  But is it?

Would you like a crocodile to live with you? You would if his name was Lyle.  Bernard Waber has written a number of books about this delightful member of the family.

Clifford, the Big Red Dag, is Elizabeth's best friend.  His size gets him into problems sometimes, but preschool-age children (and their parents) love the lessons he teachs. (by Norman Bridwell)

All of us, children and grownups alike, have good days and bad days.  We like two books that help explain moods, and keep them in perspective -- "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day", by Judith Viorst, and "Today I Feel Silly, & Other Moods That Make My Day", by Jamie Lee Curtis.

"Cloudy, with a Chance of Meatballs", by Judith Barett, allows children to wonder what would happen if food fell from the sky instead of rain.  Would it be better?  Maybe, . . . but maybe not.

There are a lot of books that specifically feature Hispanic and African-American children.  Our favorites include the "Corduroy" series, by Don Freeman.  This series features a young girl and her stuffed bear.

We also like "So Much", by Trish Cooke, about a baby who is loved by all members of his family, and finally, "Liza Lou the Yeller Belly, Swamp", by Mercer Mayer.  This is a story about one little girl  ouwitting all of the evil creatures in the swamp.

For a new twist on an old tale, check out "Little Red Riding Hood, a New-Fangled Prairie Tale", by Kansas City author Lisa Campbell Ernst.  The wolf never met a Grandma like this before.

Are you hip? Are you "with it"?  The Little Snake finds that you can "Be-Bop" whih your own kind, but you can realy swing when you mix it up with a turtle, a fish, a bird, and all of the other cool cats in the forest.  A great book for one child or for groups, by Elizabeth Nygaard

We get our ideas for books to read from teachers, librarians, and Moms and Dads like you.  A great written source of ideas is "The Read-Aloud Handbook", by Jim Trelease.
