Reading Reaches, Inc., a Not for Profit corporation, chartered in Missouri, seeks unfilled needs in children's literacy and brings community resources together to fill
them. At the present time, Reading Reaches, Inc. is involved in two iniatives in the Kansas City area:
Reading Reaches Kids' Minds and Kids' Hearts,
inaugurated in 1998, brings adult volunteers into the domestic violence shelters to read aloud to children at bedtime. Through 30 minutes of bedtime stories, we demonstrate the joy of books, as well as adult behaviors that these children are not accustomed to seeing.
The Dictionary Project Kansas City, inaugurated in the summer of 2002, seeks to furnish every third grade child in the Kansas City area with a personal dictionary |
